There has been some buzz over the past year about NAC, and if you are one of our current patients you may be a bit familiar with it. For those of you who are not familiar with it, I would like to provide you with some information.
N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is an amino acid that helps your body to make glutathione. Glutathione is a strong liver antioxidant that helps your body filter out toxins, break down hormones in a safe way, and helps support healthy DNA. It reduces the formation of free radicals. As we get older, our body’s glutathione production decreases, however, our need for continued detoxification does not decrease. Glutathione can be depleted with toxin exposure, oxidative stress, alcohol consumption, inflammation, and illness just to name a few, so yes, our production can be depleted in our daily lives.
Glutathione depletion has been linked to many degenerative conditions including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, pulmonary disease, immune disease, cardiovascular disease, and chronic age-related diseases. NAC is also well known to help with respiratory health in addition to some studies showing promise in it improving mental health.
NAC can be very beneficial in numerous ways, and as indicated above, glutathione is extremely important. We carry NAC supplements at IM of CNY, and glutathione supplements as well. We also have glutathione available for infusion, which can have numerous benefits.
If you are interested in ordering NAC, or coming in for an infusion, please contact our office at 315-741-5774.
