The thyroid gland is the epicenter of the body; it regulates heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature. It impacts weight, fertility, menstruation, skin tone, energy levels, sleep, memory, and digestion. The Thyroid gland impacts nearly every body organ, so needless to say if its not working right you are feeling it!
Thyroid dysfunction affects approximately 20 million people. Approximately 60% of those people are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, and women are much more likely to have thyroid dysfunction than men. I have been living with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis for 15 years now. It is the reason I became a holistic health coach.
When coaching clients on better thyroid health there are several areas I like to focus on:
· Testing - what to test for and how it’s interpreted.
· Discovering root causes.
· Empowering and supporting with dietary and lifestyle choices focused on overall health.
· Providing a safe space for emotions.
· Finding the right exercise to support adrenal function.
· Creating joy and simplicity.
Thyroid healing is such an individual process, and I love to help my clients discover what works for them and empower them to advocate for their health and well-being. One of my favorite techniques to share was inspired by the medical medium. It is called a sun soak.
Intentionally raise your chin and let the sun rays hit your neck area where your thyroid gland lives. The sunlight can help power your thyroid by balancing the production of hormones and strengthen it to help defend itself from viruses. I like to envision the sun giving power and strength to my thyroid while creating a protective shield around it. I breathe deeply and intentionally, thanking my individual body systems for continuing to support me throughout my day. Try it and make it your own.
